Students Beginning Fall Semester 2010
Orientation is designed to introduce you to the campus and the many services provided
for all students. Whether this is your first college experience or you are transferring
from another university, we are here to ensure you have everything you need for the first
day.
Orientation is mandatory for all incoming students and enables you to register for
classes as well as navigate the college and its resources with success.
Orientation Process
To help facilitate a successful transition to college life, Century offers a two-part
orientation process that includes:
- Part 1: Advising and Registration Session
You will be given a short overview of the college which will cover essential Century
information and have the opportunity to meet with an advisor for help with course selection.
Staff, faculty and current students will be on hand to help guide you through the registration
process.
It is important that you have completed the Accuplacer assessment test (if needed) before attending an Advising and Registration Session.
Please bring the following materials with you for check-in purposes:
- Your Century College student I.D. number
- Assessment test scores
- A photo I.D.
Arrive on time for your session and bring all of the required materials.
Individuals who arrive more than ten minutes late or are missing the required
orientation materials will not be admitted and will have to sign up for a new session.
The Advising and Registration Session will last approximately 90 minutes.
Due to room capacity limitations, family and friends may not be able to sit with their student during
the presentation and advising but may rejoin them during registration. Interested parents and family members
are encouraged to attend Welcome Day. A session will be offered to help you learn important policies,
dates and information that will help your student be successful their first semester at Century.
- Part 2: Welcome Day
Welcome Day, which takes place after you attend an Advising and Registration
Session, is the best opportunity to learn what it's really like to be a student at Century
College! We'll have faculty, staff, and students on-hand to answer all your questions
and help familiarize you with the campus and its resources.
You will have the opportunity to:
- listen to a guest speaker
- attend a variety of workshops that correspond with your interests
- take a tour of the campus
- receive assistance with email account and Desire 2 Learn (D2L) activation
- browse a resource fair that will help you become familiar with programs,
services, and student life activities offered on campus.
By the time you leave Welcome Day, you will feel prepared and ready to start your first
semester at Century. Family and friends are invited and encouraged to attend Welcome Day.
Please allow 3-4 hours to complete the Welcome Day events and bring a photo I.D for check-in purposes.
International Students
In addition to attending an orientation session, all international students are required
to attend an information session where you will meet your International Student Advisor.
Please refer to your Century College acceptance letter for more details about this
information session.
